where to stay?
LA is a big place, and spread out, too...but, as you may have heard, its all connected by lots and lots of pavement...so there are lots of options of where to stay.
The wedding will be in Elysian Park: and the after party will also be on the east side, and we live over there. So, if you want to stay closer to that part of town, you can look into hotels/short term rentals downtown or in Pasadena.
We really recommend downtown: and three options in different price points to recommend.
They are medium priced Hotel Figureroa, the splurge-y Standard downtown, and the frugal Stay (a hostel-ish hotel).
Hotel Figureroa doesn't have group rates: but its prices are already pretty reasonable. Its rooms for two are $148/night the weekend of the wedding, and rooms for 3-5 people are $162.
It's moroccan themed and has an outdoor pool, and a popular/affordable indoor/outdoor lounge. it's pretty lovely.
The Standard downtown will give you a deal if the group books more than 10 rooms: so the prices below are for if people in the party book 10+rooms/and if not. We can help coordinate if people are interested in staying there: let us know if you are.
A medium room is 204 reg/182 deal. A large or double is 220reg/200 deal.
The standard is pretty cool: it has a rooftop pool and bar and if you stay there, you get in with a wristband. The pool/bar are really busy all the time and a scene...dj at night yada yada yada.
Its also pretty lovely. The rooms are smaller than the Hotel Fig, but there is also a 24hour restaurant and you can walk to more things if you stay at the Standard.
Stay is a very affordable hostel-esque hotel. We think its a great deal.
A room with a full bath is $85 and a room with a shared bath is $65. You can get rooms for couples or friends.
AND they said they would further discount the rooms if a bunch of you want to stay there. Please let us know if you are interested and again, we will coordinate.
The rooms are simple and IKEA-y. This hotel is within walking distance of a cute restaurant we like and a little hike to little Tokyo and the downtown bar/restaurant scene. However, there is no lounge in the hotel.
If you've never really been to LA or want to experience the beach a bit, check out hotels or short term rentals in Venice or Santa Monica. In Venice, there is also a shul on the beach, more info here.
If you are super psyched to come to LA and hang out with celebs and party (we understand completely), you might be interested in hanging out on the sunset strip. The Standard, the Mondrian, and the Chateau Marmont are all super fun...but most of the hotels on the strip are good.
If you want to stay in the middle of the city...so you can do a little west-side beach and a little east side hangout, Maison 140 and the Avalon are also very cute hotels.
For finding group rates for hotels other than the standard downtown or stay, we recommend gathering friends you'd like to stay with/near, and using groople.com, which lets you organize group rates at the hotel and location of your choice.
Also, short term rentals, found on craigslist or vacationrentals.com or other places online can be a good option too.

save the date
hey!
You are invited to our wedding October 25th in Los Angeles. We are really excited to celebrate with all of you!
We hope this helps you make travel plans. You'll be receiving an invite closer to the actual date.
Some helpful info:
The wedding will be at Noon on the 25th, which is a Sunday.
Drinks, the ceremony and lunch will be at Montecillo de la Politi, a parkground within Elysian Park.
For those of you who like to plan your outfits in advance, part of the wedding will be on grass, so super high heels may be a problem. The wedding is "dressy casual," or "semi-formal" or "picnic-cocktail party style."
The evening afterparty will be at our studio.
Both the wedding and the afterparty are for adults only.
Both Elysian Park and our studio are on the "East Side" of Los Angeles.
Hotels in Downtown LA will be the easiest and most convenient for both events.
For flying in, Burbank is as convenient for a downtown hotel as LAX is.
LA is big, but we'd like to encourage carpooling for the day of the event.
Again, we are super excited to see you all and to be together on the 25th of October.

Location, Location, Location
we booked the park for the wedding.
its a private part of elysian park: called Montecillo de Politi: its the site of an old Lodge that is no longer there.
Elysian park is on the east side of LA (you can enter from echo park, chinatown, lincoln heights).
Strangely, this park houses Dodger Stadium, a Hospital, some houses, and the Police Academy from the classic Steve Gutenberg masterpiece films.
we are thinking about making tablecloths, and have some settings ideas: but mostly keeping it really simple: it's already a beautiful space.
